Berlin, December 16, 2024. 2024 signalled several significant milestones for the Omio Travel App. Omio’s ongoing success is fueled by the strength of its product, which enables millions of people to travel seamlessly, anywhere and anytime. The platform attracts 900 million visitors annually, resulting in over 1 billion travel journey searches across more than 10 million unique routes, globally. Omio sells 80.000 tickets daily via the Omio travel app and desktop, equating to moving a traveller every second of every day.

Destination profitability

Having successfully navigated the pandemic, the Berlin-based Omio Group has scaled up by 3.5x, employing 400+ employees and counting $1 billion+ in ticket sales this year. With +30 % YoY growth, the Omio Travel app and its rapidly growing European inventory, are the foundation for the group’s success. In 2024, Omio’s travel app secured successful partnerships with Flix and Ryanair, accelerated ferries as the fourth travel mode (with +183% YoY growth), and is successfully unlocking connected journeys for travellers using multiple modes of transport.

Omio is the only platform that unifies mobility data on trains, buses, ferries, and flights using one app, making planning, comparing, and booking journeys radically simple.  The Omio app offers bookable inventory across 39 countries, and tickets can be booked in 27 languages and paid in 21 currencies.

Fast-track expansion

Omio secured a growth capital facility of $120 million from Hercules Capital. With the Omio group reaching profitability, the thriving B2C business division with the Omio Travel app and the capital facility lays the groundwork for expanding into new markets and continents. Steve Kuo, Senior Managing Director and Technology Group Head at Hercules Capital, added: “Omio has achieved significant milestones as it has scaled up its travel platform. We’re excited to partner with Omio and support its continued global expansion with a $120 million growth capital facility.”

Next stop: Southeast Asia

Omio’s next expansion is set for 2025 when it will launch services in Southeast Asia. This vibrant region will add a new dimension to Omio’s global inventory, reflecting our mission to make travel by rail, bus, ferry, and flight as effortless and enjoyable as possible worldwide. The Asia-Pacific region is the second-largest tourist destination globally, followed by Europe, with Southeast Asia attracting approximately 120 million inbound tourists annually.

Veronica Diquattro, President of Consumer & Supply Business in Europe at Omio, commented: “Our vision is to enable billions of people to travel seamlessly – anywhere, anyway. Our platform continues to redefine how people travel by connecting the fragmented global travel landscape and championing greater transparency and accessibility. We want to empower all travellers to make informed decisions and manage their trips effortlessly. The accomplishments of 2024 are a testament to our commitment, and they form the foundation for a future where seamless multi-modal journeys become a default way of travel.
