Berlin, 3 August 2022. Omio, the world’s leading ground transportation platform today announced a new strategic partnership with Uber to provide its unique inventory and proprietary technology to enable users to search and book international and national train and coach routes effortlessly via the Uber app. Uber is piloting new multimodal services such as trains and coaches in the United Kingdom, making it the first market to power its latest consumer product feature.

The ticketing integration delivered by Omio enables a seamless, digital and mobile-first approach to travel across the UK, hosted entirely within the Uber platform.

The single integration allows Uber to access the full breadth of Omio’s bookable inventory of more than 1,000 transportation providers in 37 countries worldwide.

The announcement of the partnership with Uber follows Omio’s most recent funding round, in which Omio raised 80 million USD to strengthen its position as the leading ground transportation platform worldwide. Global expansion activities, including M&A and strategic partnerships, are essential pillars of Omio’s strategy to connect transport networks worldwide and amplify its customer-centric vision of digitised end-to-end travel. With the largest portfolio of transportation providers on one platform, Omio powers a variety of consumer travel companies such as Kayak, LNER (London North Eastern Railway), SJ (Swedish rail), and digital services such as Huawei’s Petal Search among others.

Naren Shaam, CEO and Founder of Omio, stated:

“I’m very excited to enter this partnership with Uber, sharing our extensive inventory of ground transportation with Uber’s customers. We have spent years building our inventory and standardising data sets for millions of ground transportation routes to empower our consumers to travel by train, bus, ferry and airport transfer more easily. Now we are able to harness our inventory and technology to scale and expand our B2B business. Uber is a fantastic partner for us to collaborate with, as, together, Uber and Omio now can offer consumers an effortless door-to-door travel experience.”

Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK, said:
“We’re excited to launch our new travel offering this summer, allowing a seamless door-to-door travel experience across the UK. Partnering with Omio will accelerate our efforts to become the go-to travel app for our UK users”.

Tommaso del Re, VP of Partnerships at Omio, added:
“Over the past 9 years, the team at Omio has worked tirelessly to build relationships with more than 1,000 transportation providers across the globe and integrate their inventory, timetables and ticketing capabilities into one digital system. Omio’s unique solutions for partners are already being utilised by platforms globally, and today we are excited to be partnering with Uber, who share our mission to give consumers seamless, innovative travel experiences that move them.”

During the pandemic Omio invested heavily in building up a B2B arm, and built out seamless products to empower partners to also help improve the travel experience for consumers. Partnership options include white label, search and booking APIs, and agency tools.

Omio has observed a steady increase in ground transportation booking share since 2019 and, as travel restrictions continuously ease across the UK and wider Europe, the trend continues to gain momentum. Train travel booked through Omio from the UK to Europe has increased by around 10% since 2019, with overall train bookings through Omio in the UK well above 2019 levels.
